Crestor – What You Need to Know
Crestor is a relatively new statin drug on the market that is designed to lower cholesterol levels. The cholesterol-controlling drug has been under close scrutiny since it has hit the market because of a tendency for severe side effects. Since the popular statin drug Baycol was recalled when it was found to cause the fatal muscle disorder, rhabomyolysis, all new statins, including Crestor, have been monitored carefully.
In May of 2004, a petition to recall Crestor was submitted to the FDA by a consumer protection group. This was based on evidence gathered during clinical trials of Crestor. The drug has been found to cause rhabdomyolysis and related symptoms. The instances of Crestor patients with rhabdomyolysis symptoms looks to be on the rise and many fear that the dangers of Crestor may rival that of the similar statin drug Baycol, which has been attributed to more that 100 deaths since it hit the market.
